The Catholic Church has been entrusted with so much! Vatican II charges us, the laity, with a great responsibility: be as Christ in this world! Yet we are sinking to the level of irrelevance in our culture. The culture grows more and more dehumanized and brutal; the Church as a whole is lukewarm, uninterested, self-concerned.
We are called to authentic, personal, whole-hearted holiness; we have stopped our ears. The recent popes - John Paul II and Benedict, certainly - have exhorted us, encouraged us, challenged us; far too many of our local bishops and local pastors have passed on to us mere words, platitudes and truisms. We do not need mere words, we need zeal! We need strong and committed men of God who will lead.
The world needs saints to be light in this growing darkness, lest we all fall into the abyss. Are there any dioceses and parishes anywhere where the challenge, the power and the responsibility are taken seriously?
