Still sick with bronchitis now. Meds are up in two or three days, maybe that will take care of it. I like the way you uns are keeping things "hopping" around here. That's not my long suit. Maybe you can really get it going. I am practicing for an engagement playing at the local Jazz Society next month. I don't know how any one thinks a jazz musician can keep gong on one or two jobs a year. It means an awful lot of practice for a little bit of performance. $:\$ I AM good though! Otherwise, why would they call me???? Please take time to check out the "Two Minutes With The Bible" posts on my page. C.R. Stam who wrote them has recently gone to his reward. I think, now that he is dead, his contribution will be finally recognized and we may be gong to see a new "Reformation" that will make know the "Mystery" never before since Paul's time. But what good does it dothem when they accept that the RCC is the only ones who can tell them what it says? I have seen many, many posts by Catholics, and it appears from their posts, they reject the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit personally, in favor of letting men who don't even understand that Jesus alone saves, teach them their self serving agenda. I am mystified when I see cAtholic posts that state verses about grace, saying they = works. then talk about prugatory, then claim that Jesus did it all for us on the cross. It is confusing and like talking to monty python comedy routines rejects.

PROBLEM: The Pope and his magesterium are the only ones allowed to interpret scripture. This paper is not only a threat to the church's power, it's also a sin--how convenient. "The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him." Pg. 30, #100 http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p1s1c2a2.htm#100 XV. ANSWER: How convenient…for the church. Lucky for them God only wants them to read and understand His word, or so they say. What they are saying here is to receive the word (their word) with all readiness and leave the scripture searching up to the Pope, which DIRECTLY contradicts what the bible instructs us to do (see Acts 17:11). Hmm…that opens the door for exploitation and power-grabbing. Coincidence? I think not. But more importantly, the bible often states that it is erroneous to not know scriptures for yourself. XV. REASONS: Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessaloni'ca, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Mark 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the Scriptures, neither the power of God? More . . . I would rather be honestly blunt than diplomatically untruthful.

If you go to daily mass, you will hear the entire new testament and almost all of the old testament read to you just at Mass. The Divine Office is pretty much pure scripture. So much for the Church trying to keep people away from the Bible.

I was trying to find that chart showing the actual percentage of the New Testament read over a three year period. Can you post that, showing that 'entire' really doesn't mean 'entire? "Cults use Christian terminology, but redefine terms to suit their own belief and practices." -Dr. Walter Martin

The Church "forcefully and specially exhorts all the Christian faithful . . . to learn 'the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ' (Phil 3: by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures.... Let them remember, however, that prayer should accompany the reading of Sacred Scripture, so that a dialogue takes place between God and man. For 'we speak to him when we pray; we listen to him when we read the divine oracles." The spiritual writers, paraphrasing Matthew 7:7, summarize in this way the dispositions of the heart nourished by the word of God in prayer "Seek in reading and you will find in meditating; knock in mental prayer and it will be opened to you by contemplation." -Catechism of the Catholic Church 2653-2654 The Mass is rich in scripture... the coming revised translation will be even richer in scriptural references in our prayers. The Divine Office is nearly entirely Scripture. Lectio Divina has a long history in the Catholic Church. As I've mentioned before, I went through a period of checking out other "churches," and various non-Catholic Christian faith communities. None of them presented Scripture as completely as the Catholic community I'm involved with now. I'm Catholic, spend a large chunk of my time with fellow Catholics, and I read the Bible every day.

Even if a Catholic didn't miss any mass during a three year period, they still would be far short of hearing the 'entire' New Testament. They do drop the transition verses, they skip some things that restate the same point made a chapter before, they skip over long lists (like Revelations 7:5-8 in the upcoming week's reading). Still, a Catholic at Mass would receive as much of the Bible as Christians in the various "Bible-based" "churches," and in most cases more of it. And, the Mass isn't even intended primarily as a Bible Study... it's supposed to be a worship service, not a religious education class. The Catholic Church gives people as much Scripture as it can. And it doesn't just read the same twenty verses over and over again like all too many "Christian" churches.
